A tragic accident on the Garden Reach flyover claimed the life of a 17-year-old teenager late Friday night. At around 10 pm, a speeding car carrying six young passengers lost control and crashed into the concrete wall of the flyover, leading to a fatal overturn.
According to initial reports, the vehicle was traveling from west to east when the driver, 19-year-old Rohit Agarwal, drove recklessly at high speed. Upon reaching the middle section of the flyover, Rohit lost control of the car, which then rammed into the side barrier and overturned violently.
The impact left the passengers severely shaken. Despite their injuries, the occupants tried to help each other and quickly rushed an unconscious Subham Das, aged 17, to SSKM Hospital. However, doctors declared Subham dead upon arrival.
Investigators believe that excessive speed and possible inexperience behind the wheel were critical factors contributing to the crash. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the car zigzagging moments before it smashed into the wall.
Police have launched an investigation to determine whether negligence, underage driving violations, or other factors were involved. The condition of the other five injured youths is reported to be stable, but authorities are awaiting their full recovery to record formal statements.
The accident has once again highlighted the dangers of reckless driving, especially among young drivers, and raised concerns over road safety enforcement on city flyovers during late hours.
